57TH ANNUAL PRIMETIME EMMY® AWARDS TELECAST UPDATE Board of Governors Vote to Reinstate Acceptance Speeches In Their Original Fashion

STATEMENT FOR RELEASE:

North Hollywood, CA, August 9, 2005 – In connection with the 57th Annual Primetime Emmys Awards, scheduled for broadcast September 18, 2005, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has released the following statement:

Ken Ehrlich (executive producer) and the Television Academy carefully reviewed the production logistics and elements of the Primetime Emmys telecast to see if we were accomplishing our stated goals.  What we found was that some of the initial assumptions were not accurate, in light of the way the show was being constructed.

In effect, the amount of time being saved was not as much as originally thought, and the costs incurred would be in excess of original projections.  As a result, the Board of Governors met last night (August 8) and, among other things, voted on this issue.

The Board decided that based on this new evaluation, the acceptance speeches would be reinstated in their original fashion.
