Former CBS News Producer Bernard Birnbaum Dies at Age 89

Recipient of seven Emmys for his coverage of major historical events.

Bernard Birnbaum, a former producer for CBS News, died November 26, 2009, at age 89. The cause of death was not specified in news reports.

Birnbaum began his CBS career in 1951. Over the ensuing years he received seven Emmy Awards for his coverage of historical events ranging from the Vietnam War to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

In addition, worked on many CBS programs including Eyewitness to History and The American Parade.

He is survived by two daughters and four grandchildren.
