Howard Marcantel, vice president of educational events at the Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing, died February 15, 2010, after experiencing a heart attack. He was 47.
A popular and respected figure at Arlington, Virginia-based CTAM, Marcantel maintained thriving professional relationships throughout the industry, including the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ emmy magazine.
Before his tenure with CTAM, Marcantel, whose television career spanned two decades, was director of competition planning and events for Discovery Communications.
Previously, he oversaw the Education Foundation at the National Association of Broadcasters and spent 10 years at National Cable Television Association, where he was produced educational sessions and marketed the annual Cable Show. He also managed the CableACE Awards competition.
A wake service for Marcantel was held Friday, February 19, in Kinder, Louisiana, near his Louisiana home.
A mass took place on Saturday, February 20, at Kinder’s St. Phillip Neri Catholic Church.
