Lyman Hallowell, Picture Editor for Three Decades

Hallowell worked on several classic feature films — including Miracle on 34th Street, Daddy Long Legs and All About Eve — and earned television credits as well.

Lyman Hallowell, a picture editor who worked on dozens of feature films, many of them classics, died July 11, 2011, in San Diego, California. He was 96.

According to reports, the cause was heart failure.

Born in Santa Barbara, California, Hallowell grew up in Los Angeles, where he was immersed in the motion picture industry at an early age.

After periods working as an actor and in the art and accounting departments at 20th Century Fox, he became a picture editor.

In addition to working on such films as Miracle on 34th Street and All About Eve, he worked on such television series as Brenner and NYPD.
