Sherri Chung
Briefly describe what you do.
I am a musician and composer for film and television.
What motivated you to become a governor?
I enjoy being active in our industry, and I sought the governorship to be an advocate for and a voice among our music community.
What are some of your proudest accomplishments or credits?
I am most proud of the work I have done and the involvement I have in television overall. When I began this career, it was very difficult to break into television. Now, I am proud to have written scores for numerous shows on various broadcast networks, such as CW’s Kung Fu and NBC’s Blindspot and Found, as well as streaming shows like Based on a True Story and the animated series Gremlins.
How do you stay informed about emerging trends and developments within your field, and how has that helped support your peer group?
I keep up with emerging trends and developments by continuously talking to my peers and colleagues about their current projects and experiences. In addition, each new project I work on has its own “newness” that can be very helpful in understanding what is changing and developing in our industry. Also, just watching newly released shows is incredibly informative. All of this helps to support and address the concerns of our peer group as we bring new ideas for discussion to the table.
What do you hope to accomplish for your peer group as a governor?
As a continuing governor, I hope to continue the growing sense of community in our peer group. I plan on increasing our visibility as a creative force in the Television Academy by keeping us involved in relevant discussions. And I hope to continue recognizing the wonderful talent and achievements by our peer group by maintaining the integrity of our Emmy Award as the highest honor in television.
What do you like most about being a governor at the Television Academy?
As a governor at the Television Academy, I like being someone who my peers and colleagues feel they can approach and discuss industry and concerns with. I enjoy bringing awareness about our Academy to our members and potential members and inviting them to be a part of the conversations that matter most.
