The award-winning musician, Laid actor and composer of the series Disclaimer shares the shows that helped define him.
My first favorite show as a kid: The Andy Griffith Show
I was raised watching it as a child. It’s a very charming fantasy world, very peachy. That was my earliest memory of sitting down to watch a show.
A show that inspired me as a musician: Big Little Lies
I remember watching it while flying back from New Zealand, which was a long flight, so I watched the whole thing. I loved the Michael Kiwanuka theme song.
The show I consider to be ahead of its time: The Office

It’s still great now, and it’s the first thing that really feels like a period piece that I lived through. It’s a workplace that I don’t feel would exist anymore, with all of the antiquated technology they use. There’s just such an old-school tech vibe to that show.
The last show I watched: Family Guy
On the road, we watch it every night — an inordinate amount of it — and we use a kind of a sixth sense. We scroll through episodes until we see one, and we’re like, "Lois has a problem?" and then we watch it. That’s how we do it.
A show I’ve never seen: Seinfeld

When you try to watch it as a 27-year-old in 2025, they’re referencing stuff that hasn’t been popular in 23 years. I need an encyclopedia for the references.
