UCLA Course: History of American Television

Bob Boden to present a comprehensive survey of unique history, evolution, societal impacts and influences of television.

UCLA's Summer Session includes this new offering: History of American Television, as part of its Variable Topics in Mass Communication and Media Institutions program.

The study includes more than 100 first-hand accounts from pioneers and changemakers who experienced them. Topics include early days of television, from its genesis at the 1939 New York World's Fair through contemporary issues in representation, content and delivery, and technological advancements.

The online class incorporates content from The Interviews: An Oral History of Television, the Television Academy Foundation's extensive library of more than 900 interviews with luminaries from the world of television.

Instructor Bob Boden is a former governor of the Television Academy, and an Emmy-nominated creative leader in the world of reality television and game shows. His career spans over 40 years in creating, developing, producing, writing and serving as an executive for numerous networks, studios and production companies.
