Internship: Rules and Eligibility

2024 Internships may be in-person, hybrid, or remote, depending on the opportunity, and are subject to change. As a condition of employment, the Academy Foundation requires all interns to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Full vaccination requires both vaccinations + booster. The Academy Foundation will consider exceptions only for interns who cannot be vaccinated against COVID-19 for medical or religious reasons as determined on a case-by-case basis.

The Television Academy Foundation reserves the right to refuse placement in any category at any time.

  • Applicants must be qualified full-time students pursuing an associate, bachelor or graduate degree at a college or university within the United States. Students entering their final quarter or semester in Spring 2024 without a full course load may also apply. Fall and Spring opportunities are open to students enrolled in a college or university within the Greater Los Angeles Area (counties of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Ventura) and Semester in LA programs ONLY.
  • Students who have completed or will be completing college or graduate school prior to December 31, 2023 are not eligible.
  • Participants must be a U.S. citizen, Permanent Resident, or a Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) student.
  • For the Foundation to conduct a background check and process payroll for an intern, the intern will need to provide the Foundation with a U.S. Social Security number upon notification of employment.
  • All opportunities, with the exception of Getting Real: Unscripted, are open to all class levels.
  • Students may submit one entry for one category.
  • Students who have previously participated in the Internship Program MAY NOT apply again.
  • Students participating in specialized two-year or certificate programs should contact the Foundation to determine eligibility.
  • All Summer internships are paid, full-time remote positions, 40 hours per week. Fall and Spring internships are paid, part-time positions, 20-25 hours/week. Rate is $17.50 per hour. Payment is made once a week; applicable payroll deductions apply.
  • Interns are responsible for their own housing and living expenses
  • Students are responsible for their OWN in-town transportation.
  • Airline ticket assistance may be available in the Summer to individuals not bringing reliable transportation who live beyond a 200-mile radius from Los Angeles County.

Getting Real: Unscripted additional requirements

  • Eligible applicants must show a demonstrated financial need and be graduating from a college/university within Southern California with a degree conferred by June 2024.
  • Applicants must have a commitment to promoting the voices and stories of underrepresented communities and increasing diversity and inclusion in the television industry.

Foster Youth Opportunities additional requirements

  • Open to students in the Greater Los Angeles area ONLY (counties of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura).
  • If since the time you turned 13 you:
    • Had no living parent (biological or adoptive), even if you are now adopted
    • Were in foster care, even if you are no longer in foster care as of today; or
    • Have been a dependent or ward of the court, even if you are no longer a dependent or ward of the court as of today
  • Students must provide proof of foster care status upon finalist notification in order to be considered.
