Arlene Martel was an actress who appeared in dozens of television series, but is perhaps best remembered for the role of T'Pring, Mister Spock's bride-to-be on the sci-fi classic Star Trek.

A native of the Bronx, New York, Martel, who was born Arline Sax, began performing in her youth. She attended New York's vaunted High School for the Performing Arts, where her classmates included Suzanne Pleshette. For a time, during her early years as an actress, she was romantically involved with actor James Dean.

In 1956, she appeared on Broadway in the comedy Uncle Willie, costarring Norman Fell. She made her television debut two years later in an episode of Behind Closed Doors, a drama about military espionage.

For the next 50 years, she never stopped working. A partial list of her TV credits includes The Twilight Zone, Hogan’s Heroes, Death Valley Days, The Detectives, Route 66, Ben Casey, The Untouchables, Cheyenne, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., My Favorite Martian, The Fugitive, The Monkees, The Outer Limits, Gunsmoke, Bewitched, Mannix, The Doris Day Show, The Six Million Dollar Man, Columbo, McCloud, Battlestar Galactica, Knots Landing and Brothers & Sisters.

Martel's Star Trek appearance came in 1967, during the show's second season. It was notable for being the only episode of the series set on Spock's home planet, Vulcan.

Her feature films included Hong Kong, The Glass Cage, Angels from Hell and A Walk to Remember.

Martel died August 12, 2014, in Los Angeles. She was 78.
