Bill Mazer was a longtime New York sportscaster who worked widely in radio as well as on television. Over the course of a career that spanned 60 years, he was a pioneer of the sports talk radio format and was a familiar face on local TV and, later, on ESPN. He often drew upon his encyclopedic knowledge of sports trivia (for which he earned the nickname "The Amazin'") to the delight of his listeners and viewers.

Mazer began his career after serving in World War II with a radio job in Buffalo, New York. After 16 years, he returned to New York City, where he grew up, and covered baseball, football, basketball and hockey until his retirement in 2009. In addition to radio stints at WNBC, WOR, WEVD, WVOX and WFAN, he worked for WNEW-TV as a sports anchor and co-host of the weekend roundup show Sports Extra. He also contributed commentary to the program ESPN SportsCentury.

In 1997, Mazer was inducted into the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. He died October 23, 2013, at age 92.
