Bob Elkins was an American actor.
He began acting professionally in plays and television commercials. In 1980, he landed his first role in a major motion picture, playing Bobby Day, the DJ in the Academy Award-winning Coal Miner's Daughter, starring Sissy Spacek and Tommy Lee Jones.
Elkins appeared in other movies and television productions through the years, including Tattered Angel with Lynda Carter.
He received a best actor award from the Dublin Film and Music Festival in Ireland for his portrayal of a homeless man in the independent short film Homefree (2002).
Also in 2002, he played the father of a trapped coal miner in the ABC telefilm The Pennsylvania Miners' Story and a German admiral in James Cameron's Expedition: Bismarck for the Discovery Channel. Later, he appeared on a 2011 episode of Showtime's Homeland.
Elkins died April 27, 2022, in Cold Spring, Kentucky. He was 89.
