Cuba Gooding, Sr. was a soul singer best known for his 1972 hit “Everybody Plays the Fool,” with his band The Main Ingredient.

The song reached No. 3 on the Billboard pop singles chart, and No. 2 on the R&B chart. The group’s other hits included “Just Don’t Want to Be Lonely” and “Happiness Is Just Around the Bend.”

Gooding appeared with the group several times on the music series Soul Train as well as The Sinbad Show.

Gooding is also the father of Oscar-winning actor Cuba Gooding, Jr.

Gooding Sr. died April 20, 2017, in Woodland Hills, California. He was 72.
