Darrell Barton was a video journalist who worked for ABC, NBC and CBS News, reporting on the Iran-Iraq War for NBC and the Iraq War for CBS. He also worked on stories for 48 Hours, 20/20 and Frontline.
A Marine Corps veteran, Barton worked in Central America, the Middle East, Bosnia and Haiti, among other locations over the course of his career. He worked extensively in Oklahoma and was the chief photographer for WKY/KWTV News in Oklahoma City for 14 years.
The recipient of more than 60 television photography and production awards, Barton was given the Joseph A. Sprague Memorial Award in 1999, and was inducted into the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame in 2004. Barton also served as a faculty member at the University of Oklahoma in the NPPA's News Video Workshop at the Gaylord College of Journalism & Mass Communication. Additionally, he received a national Emmy nomination and a Gold Medal from the Chicago Film Festival.
Barton died April 15, 2015, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was 73.
