David Giler was an American screenwriter and producer.
He is best known as a writer and producer of the Alien film franchise. Giler began his career penning episodes for a number a television series including The Gallant Men, Burke's Law, and The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and writing screenplays for the films The Parallax View (1974) and Fun with Dick and Jane (1977). In 1979, he would produce the original Alien film, and go on to earn story and screenplay credits on Aliens (1986) and Alien3 (1992), while producing all seven of its sequels.
Giler also wrote Southern Comfort (1981), The Money Pit (1986), and Beverly Hills Cop II (1987) and produced the television series Tales from the Cryptkeeper, Perversions of Science, and Tales from the Crypt.
In 1997, Giler shared a Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Audience Participation Show/Game Show, for his contribution to Secrets of the Cryptkeeper's Haunted House.
Giler died December 19, 2020, in Bangkok, Thailand. He was 77.
