Donald L. Bitzer was an American engineer and computer scientist. He earned an Emmy award for co-inventing the plasma screen display, which was developed in 1964. Bitzer was famously known as the "father of PLATO," a programming language, which was the first generalize computer-assisted system. With this, Bitzer transformed the way graphic terminals were distributed globally. He was recognized by many organizations including the National Academy of Engineering, the National Inventors Hall of Fame and Computer History Museum.
