Doug Crane was an American animator, storyboard artist, and director.
He is known for his work on the children's animated television series The Smurfs and He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, as well as the adult animated feature films Beavis and Butthead Do America (1996) and Heavy Metal (1981).
With a career that spanned over six decades, Crane was an animator for Terrytoons, Hanna-Barbera, MTV, Filmation, Oriolo Films, and Zander Animation Parlour.
In 1958, he served in the U.S. Army, illustrating recruitment pamphlets, painting signage, and creating a comic strip for military newspapers entitled Tiptoe and Timber.
Crane's work is on display in the animated television series BraveStarr, Fat Albert and The Cosby Kids, The Care Bears, She-Ra: Princess of Power, Trollkins, Super Friends, Godzilla, Challenge of the Superfriends, Mighty Thor, The Deputy Dawg Show, Spider-Man, and The Mighty Hercules.
Crane died December 17, 2020 in Stuart, Florida. He was 85.
