Eunice Gayson was a British actress.
Gayson became the very first “Bond girl” when she played Sylvia Trench in the first James Bond film, Dr. No (1962), starring Sean Connery as Bond. She first asked Bond for his name at a card table, resulting in the iconic, “Bond. James Bond.” She reprised her role as Trench in From Russia With Love the following year.
Originally, Gayson was intended to play M’s secretary, Miss Moneypenny, in the Bond films, but Lois Maxwell landed that role instead.
Gayson had a long career in British films and television, including roles in three British-produced television series that were popular in the United States: Secret Agent, The Saint, and The Avengers.
Gayson died June 8, 2018. She was 90.
