Irwin Keyes was an actor best known for playing villains, henchmen and, most notably, the asthmatic assassin Wheezy Joe in the Coen brothers’ 2003 film Intolerable Cruelty.
Keyes also appeared in a recurring role as the lovable bodyguard Hugo Mojelewski on the long-running CBS sitcom The Jeffersons. Additionally, he had roles on the television series Police Squad!, Laverne & Shirley, Moonlighting, Brothers, Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color, Married with Children, Thirtysomething, Growing Pains, On the Air, Get Smart, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Eagleheart, And You Know Who You Are and Pretty Little Liars.
On 1992 ABC series On the Air, Keyes played recurring character Shorty the Stagehand. Created by Mark Frost and David Lynch, the series was set in 1957 and centered on the cast and crew of the fictional Lester Guy Show, a live variety program.
Keyes’s film work included The Flintstones, The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas, Friday the 13th, House of 1,000 Corpses, The Warriors, Stardust Memories, Zapped!, Chained Heat, Guilty as Charged, The Silence of the Hams and Black Dynamite.
Keyes died July 8, 2015, in Los Angeles. He was 63.
