Legacy

Jay Hathaway was a producer and filmmaker best known for opening and operating, with his business partner Richard Dayton, a production studio and film lab, Jay Hathaway Production Services.

Hathaway got his start when he was still in school at Columbia College, working at General Film Laboratories. In addition to producing and directing, he would at times work as a photographer, cameraman, editor, technician and recording engineer.

Over the course of his career, he contributed to The Tonight Show and the series Queen for a Day, as well as various sporting events and commercials for Kentucky Fried Chicken, Ford Motor Company, Best Western Motels, Magic Chef and many more.

In 1970, Hathaway and his wife founded the American Academy of Husband-Coached Childbirth, and began training teachers in the Bradley Method of Natural Childbirth. He went on to produce more than 40 educational childbirth films and videos.

Hathaway died November 20, 2015, in Anaheim, California. He was 74.
