Jim Hellwig was a WWE wrestler better known as The Ultimate Warrior
Hellwig, who grew up in Indiana, attended Indiana State University and was studying at a chiropractic school in Atlanta when he won the 1984 Mr. Georgia weight-lifting competition. After earning the crown, he was recruited as a professional wrestler.
Adopting the moniker The Ultimate Warrior, he wore multicolored face paint when he competed. He began his WWE career in 1987 and went on to become of its biggest stars. A highlight came in 1990, when he defeated Hulk Hogan to become WWE champion.
Hellwig died April 8, 2014, in Scottsdale, Arizona. He was 54.
He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame three days before his death and appeared on the WWE television program Monday Night Raw one day before his death.
In a post on the WWE website, the organization wrote: "WWE is shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the passing of one of the most iconic WWE superstars ever, The Ultimate Warrior. WWE sends its sincere condolences to Warrior’s family, friends and fans."
