Joe Franklin, a beloved New York City fixture and long time talk show host and radio personality passed away at the age of 88. Best known for hosting The Joe Franklin Show for 43 years, Franklin reached national consciousness after playing himself in films like Broadway Danny Rose and Ghostbusters, as well as being parodied by Billy Crystal on Saturday Night Live.

His television show featured a wide variety of guests, ranging from A-list celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe, Charlie Chaplin, and John Lennon to quirky New York City locals whom he’d pull from the sidewalk for impromptu interviews.

Besides his television show, Franklin hosted several radio programs, wrote a half-dozen books, and even opened a restaurant in Times Square.

Franklin earned a lifetime achievement award from the Television Academy in 1991.

He died January 24, 2015, in New York City.
