Joni Sledge was a singer and performer who founded the R&B group Sister Sledge in 1971 with her three sisters Debbie, Kim and Kathy.

The sisters are best known for their hit “We Are Family,” as well as “He’s the Greatest Dancer” and “Lost in Music."

In 1975, Sledge performed the song "Then Came You" with the Spinners on the television music show The Midnight Special. She also had appearances on American Bandstand, Fridays, Family Feud, Soul Train, Pyramid and The Oprah Winfrey Show.

In 1984, she appeared on The Jeffersons with her sisters, in which they portrayed the singing group The Satins.

Sledge died March 10, 2017, in Phoenix, Arizona. She was 60.
