Joy Kecken is a showrunner, director, writer-producer, playwright and librettist.

She is also a Television Academy Honors Honoree and an NAACP Image Award nominated writer-producer who most recently served as an executive producer on the Apple+ series, Swagger, as well as a co-executive producer on the Nat Geo anthology series, Genius: MLK/X.

Prior to that, Joy has written and directed for the critically acclaimed HBO series, The Wire. Currently, she is in development with NK Carroll of All-American series fame for a Warner Brothers series.

She has also been a co-executive producer on FX’s Kindred and Freeform’s Motherland: Fort Salem, and a consulting producer on the critical darling feature documentary, The Biggest Little Farm, which was included on the Oscar doc shortlist.

As a director, librettist and consulting producer for Boston Lyric’s award-winning digital opera series, Desert In, Joy has fulfilled a lifelong dream of bridging her musical background with her love of cinema, all while on location in Palm Springs.

Her additional writing credits include Marvel's Cloak and Dagger, Tales and Homicide: Life on the Street. Her shorts and feature documentary that she wrote, produced and directed screened at over 30 film festivals and she has developed series at Warner Brothers, Amazon, ABC Signature, FX, Freeform and UCP.

Joy currently lives in Los Angeles with her husband and daughter.
