Juanita Moore was an actress who received an Oscar nomination for the 1959 film Imitation of Life and appeared in manh other movies and television programs over the course of a career that spanned 60 years.

In Imitation of Life, directed by Douglas Sirk and based on a novel by Fannie Hurst, Lana Turner played a white actress who rises to stardom, her friendship with a black woman, played by Moore, and the challenges they share as single mothers.

A native of Los Angeles, Moore began her show business career in the chorus at at the famed Cotton Club in New York City. She later joined the  Ebony Showcase Theatre in Los Angeles and was a member of the Cambridge Players. Highlights of her theater work included a 1965 Broadway production of James Baldwin's The Amen Corner and a London production of Raisin in the Sun.

Her other feature films included Pinky, The Girl Can't Help It, Walk on the Wild Side, The Singing Nun, The Mack, Thomasine & Bushrod, Paternity and The Kid.

She also worked frequently in television, and appeared in numerous series, including The DuPont Show with June Allyson, The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, 77 Sunset Strip, The Bold Ones: The Lawyers, Adam-12, Marcus Welby, M.D., ER and Judging Amy.

Moore died January 1, 2014, in Los Angeles. She was reported to be 91.
