Julio Oscar Mechoso was a Cuban character actor best known for his frequent collaborations with Robert Rodriguez and Andy Garcia.

Mechoso and Garcia worked together in films including Internal Affairs, The Lost City, Magic City Memoirs and A Dark Truth and in the telefilms Clinton and Nadine and For Love or Country: The Arturo Sandoval Story.

He teamed with Rodriguez on movies including Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Planet Terror, Grindhouse and Machete Kills and on the El Rey TV series Matador.

Mechoso appeared on the television series Miami Vice, Knots Landing, Quantum Leap, Matlock, Murphy Brown, The Larry Sanders Show, Seinfeld, Coach, Damon, Boy Meets World, Touched by an Angel, Dharma & Greg, NYPD Blue, Ghost Whisperer, Grey’s Anatomy, Without a Trace, Cold Case, The Big Bang Theory, House of Lies, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Madam Secretary.

Additionally, Mechoso had roles in the films Bad Boys, All the Pretty Horses, Jurassic Park III, Lords of Dogtown, The Legend of Zorro, Little Miss Sunshine, Cake and Rules Don’t Apply.

Mechoso died November 25, 2017, in Burbank, California. He was 62.
