Kip Niven was an American actor.

A native of Kansas, Niven entered the theater program at the University of Kansas, where he performed in dozens of plays.

His early film credits include Earthquake (1974) and Midway (1976), the first two movies released in the “Sensurround” format that made theater seats shake at specific moments. Niven appeared in at least two other “disaster” films, Airport 1975 and The Hindenburg (1977).

Niven’s extensive television credits include Night Gallery, Emergency!, Ironside, Adam-12, Marcus Welby, M.D., S.W.A.T., The Bionic Woman, Barnaby Jones, Falcon Crest, The Waltons, CHiPs, Knight Rider, Kate & Allie, Law & Order, and Walker, Texas Ranger.

Niven also appeared on the long-running CBS sitcom Alice, whose star Linda Lavin he married in 1982. Niven’s character had a key role in the two-part series finale as a country singer who accompanies Lavin’s Alice to Nashville to follow her musical dream.

Niven died May 6, 2019, in Kansas City, Missouri. He was 73.
