Hurt had a long and accomplished career in film. She can be seen in "Interiors," "Chilly Scenes of Winter," and "The Age of Innocence." Hurt also appeared in "Light Sleeper" and "Affliction," which were written and directed by her husband Paul Schrader.

She was also a well-renowned stage actor. Hurt received three Tony Award nominations for her work in "Trelawany of the Wells," "Crimes of the Heart," and "Benefactors." She was also Glenn Close's understudy in the play "Love for Love."
