Michael Johns was a singer best known as a contestant on the television program American Idol. During the show's seventh season, in 2008, he finished eighth, after which he launched a career as a solo artist.

Born Michael John Lee in Perth, in Western Australia, in 1978, he moved to the U.S. in 1997, when he received a tennis scholarship from Denver University.

Soon afterward, he left Denver for Atlanta to pursue music. He began performing in earnest and eventually signed with Maverick Records, but the company folded before his album was released. A subsequent deal with Columbia Records also ended in disappointment when a shift in the executive ranks resulted in his being dropped from the label.

He auditioned for American Idol and was chosen as a contestant. After he left the show, he went continued to perform. Grammy-winning producer David Foster became a mentor and included Johns in the PBS television special, Hit Man: David Foster and Friends, which also included performances by such major names as Michael Buble, Josh Groban, Blake Shelton and Andrea Bocelli. He also appeared on a 2012 episode of the Bravo series Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, which stars Foster's wife, Yolanda.

Johns died August 1, 2014, in Tustin, California. He was 35.
