Mort Sahl was a Canadian-born American comedian, actor, and social satirist.

Described in 1960 by Time magazine as "the best of the New Comedians [and] the first notable American political satirist since Will Rogers," Sahl pioneered a style of social satire that pokes fun at political and current event topics, using improvised monologues and only a newspaper as a prop.

Along with his nightclub performances, he appeared as an actor in a few films, and on television shows including Ironside, Love, American Style, Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In, Emergency!, The Snoop Sisters, and D.C. Follies.

Sahl was one of the interim hosts on The Tonight Show following Jack Paar's departure as the network waited for Johnny Carson to become available.

Sahl died October 26, 2021, in Mill Valley, California. He was 94.
