Nigel Davenport was an actor known for roles in films such as A Man for All Seasons and Chariots of Fire, as well as numerous television movies and series in Great Britain and the U.S.
Davenport, who got his start in the theater, was a founding member of the English Stage Company at the Royal Court, where he appeared in many productions.
In addition to A Man for All Seasons and Chariots of Fire, both of which won Oscars for Best Picture, he was seen in the films Return to Sender, A High Wind in Jamaica, Life at the Top, The Virgin Soldiers, Play Dirty, Living Free, The Island of Dr. Moreau and Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes.
In addition, he appeared in dozens of television productions. His British credits included The Adventures of Robin Hood, The Saint, The Avengers, South Riding, Oil Strike North, Don’t Rock the Boat, Howards’ Way, Trainer and Prince Regent.
In the U.S., his television credits included The Name of the Game and Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color.
Davenport died October 25, 2013, at age 85.
