Pete Hamill was an American journalist, novelist, and screenwriter.

A New York literary mainstay for over half a century, Hamill wrote columns for the New York Post, the Daily News, the Village Voice, and Newsday.

He also wrote the Faye Dunaway feature 'Doc' (1971), Badge 374 (1973), and a number of telefilms including Nightside, The Gift, Liberty, and Laguna Heat, and he appeared as an actor in Badge 374, King of New York (1990), The Paper (1994), One Fine Day (1996), and The Insider (1999).

His towering persona was illuminated in the HBO documentary Breslin and Hamill: Deadline Artists in 2019.

Hamill died August 5, 2020, in Brooklyn, New York. He was 85.
