Peter Sallis was a British performer and voice actor best known for his work voicing the cheery inventor Wallace of the claymation stop-motion animated Wallace & Gromit feature films and shorts.

Sallis also appeared in all 295 episodes of the long-running British sitcom Last of the Summer Wine. He starred on the series, about three old men from Yorkshire, beginning in 1973, and was the only actor to appear in every episode.

Additionally, Sallis had roles on the series Doctor Who, The Avengers, The Pallisers and Leave It to Charlie.

Sallis graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and went on to work in theater with such legends as Orson Welles, Laurence Olivier and John Gielgud. In 1965, he played Dr. Watson on Broadway in Baker Street, a musical about Sherlock Holmes.

Sallis died June 2, 2017, in Denville Hall, Northwood, Hillingdon, London, England. He was 96.
