Peter Sova was a Czechoslovakian-born cinematographer.

After training to be a machinist in Prague, Sova emigrated to the United States in his twenties. He landed in New York City and got a job repairing cameras for ABC.

Sova's first feature as a cinematographer was Short Eyes (1977) starring Bruce Davidson and he would go on to be Barry Levinson's go-to director of photography, collaborating on Diner (1982), Good Morning, Vietnam (1987), Tin Men (1987), and Jimmy Hollywood (1994).

In addition, he frequently worked with Paul McGuigan, shooting Gangster No. 1 (2000), The Reckoning (2002), Wicker Park (2004), Lucky Number Slevin (2006), Push (2009), and an episode of the miniseries Thief.

Sova also captured Sgt. Bilko (1996), Donnie Brasco (1997), a number of TV movies, and he served as a photographer for documentarian Errol Morris on The Thin Blue Line (1988), Fast, Cheap & Out of Control (1997) and Mr. Death: The Rise and Fall of Fred A. Leuchter Jr. (1999).

Sova died August 27, 2020, in South Kortright, New York. He was 75.
