Named one of Variety's Artisan Elite: Up Next, Sandra Valde-Hansen holds an MFA in Cinematography from the AFI Conservatory. Story is always at the heart of her project choices, a value that has guided her work across feature films, television, and documentaries.

She is a longtime collaborator of indie auteur Gregg Araki, having lensed his STARZ series Now Apocalypse and his Sundance features Kaboom and White Bird in a Blizzard.

More recently, Sandra has worked with showrunner and New York Times bestselling author Jenny Han, shooting Season 1 of XO, Kitty for Netflix and Seasons 2 and 3 of The Summer I Turned Pretty for Amazon.

Much of Sandra's work champions representation, both in front of and behind the camera. She is committed to using her lens to make space for a wider range of voices.

Sandra came up through the camera department and was mentored by ASC luminaries, including Stephen Lighthill, Alan Caso, Nancy Schreiber, and Steven Poster.

Born in Miami to a Filipino medical family, she fulfilled a lifelong goal in 2022 when she became a member of the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC). In 2023, she joined Lupon ng Pilipinong Sinematograpo (LPS), the Filipino Society of Cinematographers.

She is also a member of the Society of Camera Operators, the International Cinematographers Guild, and the American Association of University Professors. Sandra serves as Senior Cinematography Faculty at AFI and lives in Los Angeles with her husband and daughter, Mazzy.

Sandra is very proud to be serving as co-Governor of the TV Academy's Cinematography Peer Group.
