Sheldon Cooper was an American producer and president of the WGN.
Cooper joined WGN-TV in 1950 where he became known for his skills in developing talent as well as television shows. He served the company as their president and general manager from 1979-82.
One of Cooper’s highest-rated shows was The Mystery of Al Capone’s Vaults, hosted by Geraldo Rivera.
He was responsible for syndicating shows such as The Phil Donahue Show, At the Movies, Soul Train Music Awards and he also oversaw production of The Bozo Show and Creature Features.
Cooper studied at Purdue University, and served in the Navy during World War II. He earned a bachelor’s degree in theater arts from Indiana University.
Cooper died January 19, 2020, in Evanston, Illinois. He was 93.
