Stu Erwin was a development executive who helped to bring several successful series to network television.

Born in Los Angeles in 1932, Erwin was the son of actors Stuart Erwin and June Collyer, who starred on the 1950-55 ABC comedy show Trouble With Father, which was later retitled The Stu Erwin Show. His father earned an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor in the 1936 film Pigskin Parade.

Erwin attended Beverly Hills High School and Brown University, and served as a lieutenant in the Navy. He got his start in the entertainment industry as an associate producer on The Ed Sullivan Show, after which he ran the advertising division of the Ralston Purina company in St. Louis.

After returning to California, he became a development executive at Universal Studios, where he supervised such popular TV dramas as Marcus Welby, M.D. and McCloud.

He later moved to MTM Enterprises, the prolific company established by Mary Tyler Moore and Grant Tinker, where he shepherded many other renowned shows, including Hill Street Blues, Remington Steele and St. Elsewhere. After MTM, became creative director for Tinker's GTG Entertainment. In the early 2000s, he was an executive consultant for PBS.

Erwin died November 22, 2014, in Solana Beach, California. He was 82.
