Stuart Loory graduated from Cornell University, where he was the editor-in-chief of The Cornell Daily Sun. This was the first step toward a long and remarkable career in journalism that included work at the Newark News, New York Herald Tribune, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times and the Chicago-Sun Times.

Loory served as a White House correspondent during his several years with The Los Angeles Times, managing to earn a place on President Nixon’s “Enemies List.”

In 1973, Loory became executive editor for WNBC-TV news. Then, in 1980, he joined CNN, working his way up from managing editor of the Washington bureau, to Moscow bureau chief, then senior correspondent, executive producer and, finally, editor in chief of CNN World Report. The latter program, which he helped to create, featured news segments from more than 100 countries.

Loory died on January 16, 2015, in New York City. He was 82.
