Tobe Hooper was a director, writer and producer best known for his work in the horror genre including the films Poltergeist and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and its sequel.

1974’s Chain Saw Massacre became a cult classic and cemented Hooper in the horror genre. The story was centered around two siblings and three of their friends who are attacked by a family of cannibals.

His television work included a two-part adaptation of Stephen King’s Salem's Lot for CBS, and episodes of Amazing Stories, The Equalizer, Freddy’s Nightmares, Tales From the Crypt, The Others, Night Visions and Masters of Horror.

Hooper died August 26, 2017, in Los Angeles. He was 74.
