Tyrone P. Bristol graduated from Suitland High School in Suitland, MD, in June 2009. After high school, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Radio, Television, and Film from Howard University in 2013, graduating with honors.
While in high school, TJ was introduced to television production through a shadowing opportunity at BET Studios in the Brentwood neighborhood of Northeast DC, arranged by an acquaintance of Tim Brooks. TJ's passion for production coordination was instantly ignited as he witnessed the professional behind-the-scenes taping of gospel greats, including Kirk Franklin, Shirley Ceaser, John P. Kee, and author/poet Maya Angelou. During that summer, he assisted in producing the 30th season of Bobby Jones Gospel by conducting backstage interviews with show guests and handling production needs, including audio recording, lighting, and running.
As a student at Howard University, TJ secured paid internships at WPGC-FM, Creative Services, Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), Student Voice at WHUR Radio, and the Katie Couric television show in New York City. After graduating from Howard, TJ became a post-production coordinator at the Smithsonian Network in Washington, DC.
Before moving, Ty met a BET executive at an entertainment panel in DC and immediately impressed her with his go-getter attitude, smarts, and charm. She told him she would hire him if he ever made it to LA. In June 2015, Ty followed his dreams of breaking into Hollywood and headed West to Los Angeles, CA, with a seat-filler job, tenacity, and faith. When he arrived in LA, he was quickly hired as an Executive Assistant for Original Programming at BET Network. During his five years at BET, he was promoted to Coordinator of Current Programming and then to Manager of Scripted Programming. Notable shows Ty worked on included The New Edition Story, The Bobby Brown Story, American Soul, the Telly Award-winning Finding Justice docuseries, Games People Play, Zoe Ever After, Bigger, and The Quad.
After stints at Amazon Studios and Netflix, Ty was hired as Director of Current Series at the FX Network. The many wonderful series he worked on at FX included American Horror Story, The Old Man, the 2026 Emmy-nominated Alien: Earth, and the recent hit Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette.
