Wendy Hughes was an Australian actress best known for her film work, but also worked in television in both Australia and the U.S.

Born in Melbourne, she studied at the prestigious National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney and went on to join the Melbourne Theatre Company.

She broke into Australian TV with roles in such series as Hunter, The Group and Homicide, and later had roles in such well known Aussie feature films as Newsfront, My Brilliant Career and Careful and He Might Hear You. Her Amercan film credits included Wild Orchid 2: Two Shades of Blue and Paradise Road.

On Amercan television she had a supporting role in the miniseries Amerika, about a Soviet takeover of the U.S., and played Jacqueline Kenndy's mother in the miniseries A Woman Named Jackie.

She also had a recurring role on the cop drama Homicide: Life on the Street and played a love interest of Patrick Stewart's Capt. Jean-Luc Picard on Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Other nortable Australian TV projects included the series Snowy River: The McGregor Saga and State Coroner.

Hughes died March 8, 2014, in Sydney. She was 61.
