The Power of TV: Homelessness in Storytelling

Each year, approximately 1 in 10 young adults and 1 in 30 adolescent minors experience homelessness. And while a troubled economy and a pandemic assures that these numbers will only increase, homelessness is often overlooked in the media.
A panel of creative talent, industry pros, and advocates will discuss the on-screen representation of youth homelessness, exploring how the creative industry can shed light and attention on this largely invisible community through compelling and authentic storytelling.

StandUp for Kids is a national non-profit organization dedicated to ending the cycle of youth homelessness in local communities like yours. Since 1990, they have cared for unaccompanied homeless and at risk youth – and young parents with children of their own – by transitioning them from crisis to connection, and now have programs operating in seventeen locations around the country. They give their youth a sense of safety, hope, and belonging through housing support, mentoring, drop-in centers, and street outreach. You can learn more at www.standupforkids.org.
