Emmy Broadcast Goes Global

When the Emmy Awards are presented this September, Americans won't be the only one watching. Viewers across the globe, from the United Kingdom to Thailand, will be holding their breath for the winners as well. Fireworks International has announced a series of international broadcast sales for the Emmys, giving the awards ceremony the most expansive global presence in its history.

"It’s gratifying to see such substantial worldwide response to our re-invigorated overseas sales," said Academy president Todd Leavitt. "This year’s 55th Emmy Awards broadcast will present the finest television entertainment the U.S. offers to the world."

Fireworks previously announced deals with LIVING TV/Flextech in the UK, ICP in Israel, as well as contracts with Network 10 and Foxtel in Australia (handled by GK Media). Now Sony Pictures Television International (SPTI) has acquired the Awards show for AXN Japan, the first time the event has been seen in that territory. In addition, SPTI’s SET Latin America and AXN Spain have signed to air the show again this year. VPL Film will air the Emmys in the Philippines, Trans TV in Indonesia, TVB in Hong-Kong, Media Corp TV in Singapore, Zee TV India, and Asian distributor Vision+ has acquired rights for Malaysia and Thailand. Mnet in South Africa have again committed to transmitting the show.

Fireworks is currently finalizing arrangements for the show to air throughout Scandinavia, Eastern and Central Europe, and the Middle-East.
Nominations for this year’s awards will be announced from the headquarters of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences on Thursday, July 17, with several of the overseas licensees present to cover the event.

The 55th Primetime Emmy Awards will be broadcast live from Los Angeles on Sunday, Sept. 21.
