Social Buzz: Madam Secretary and More Freshman Shows

This week we check the pulses of freshman series Benched, The Mysteries of Laura, Survivors' Remorse, Madam Secretary, Scorpion and Red Band Society. Which ones appear to have the best shots at second seasons?

What do Benched, The Mysteries of Laura, Survivors' Remorse, Madam Secretary, Scorpion and Red Band Society have in common?
Each one is the new kid on their networks, bright-eyed and hoping to generate enough success to return for a second season. Of course, generating ongoing tune-in is of utmost importance, but we also were curious how they were performing on social, and which ones are still engaging their online audiences.
We wanted to know:

  • Were viewers vocal about their appreciation of the simplicity of the single-camera comedy Benched?

  • Did the comedy-drama The Mysteries of Laura inspire fan chatter?

  • Was the audience of Madam Secretary kept on the edge of their seats on social?

  • Were Scorpion's viewers inspired to team up on Facebook and Twitter?

  • Did the dramatic season finale of Survivor's Remorse get fans talking?

  • Did viewers band together on social for the Red Band Society?

What did we find?
This week, the phrase “once a Red Bander, always a Red Bander” holds true, with Red Band Society not only having the largest share of engagement at 47.1%, but also getting Facebook and Twitter fired up with 249.3 and 352.7 engagements per 1K users respectively.
But did fans continue with their fascination with these shows compared to premiere week?As expected, social buzz is often at its highest point at a show’s premiere and finale weeks.
However honorary mentions go out to Madam Secretary and Survivor’s Remorse, who were able to keep users tuned into their social content.
At 363.1 engagements per 1K users during premiere week, Madam Secretary’s social activity went down only a nominal amount - far less than many of its competitors.  Survivor’s Remorse fans on the other hand, actually increased their engagement by 17%.
