E! ENTERTAINMENT TELEVISION TO AIR
EXCLUSIVE TELECAST OF SHOW AS A TWO-HOUR SPECIAL
ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 17 AT 7 P.M. ET/PT
North Hollywood, CA, August 17, 2005 – Dick Askin, Chairman of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, announced today that Michael Hoey, John Moffitt, and Spike Jones Jr., will return to produce the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences 2005 Primetime Creative Arts Emmy® Awards. The ceremony will take place on Sunday, September 11 at the Shrine Auditorium. For the fourth consecutive year, E! Entertainment Television will air the awards show as a two-hour special on Saturday, September 17 at 7:00 (ET/PT).
"This marks the eighth year that these three talented individuals will be at the helm of our Creative Arts Emmy Awards," said Askin. "This Award show continues to flourish each year, and has truly become one of Hollywood's premiere events. In addition, we welcome the return of E! as our broadcast partner. Their support of the show over the last four years has played a substantial role in the growth and exposure of the Awards to the public."
This is Jones' 11th year as producer of the Creative Arts Emmy Awards. He has established himself as a leading player in the areas of awards shows and live TV variety shows. He produced award ceremonies for The Museum of Television & Radio in both New York and Los Angeles, as well as the 55th and 56th Annual Writer’s Guild Awards. Jones was the first producer not affiliated with the Guild selected to do the show. Jones has a long line of credits with the major networks and has also produced and directed projects for HBO, Showtime, A&E Networks, MTV, VH1, The History Channel, Spike TV, Nickelodeon, Nick at Nite and TV Land.
Writer/director/editor Michael Hoey is a Governor of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. He has been nominated for two Emmys, won a Media Award for writing and an A.C.E. Eddie Award for editing. He is also the recipient of the Morgan Cox Award from the Writers Guild for his services to the Guild. Hoey has produced five annual Writers Guild Awards, in addition to his chores as one of the Executive Producers of the Creative Arts Emmy Awards for the past seven years. He is currently developing a documentary special on African-American soldiers during the Korean War.
John Moffitt, also a Governor of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, recently directed Bill Maher: Victory Begins at Home, an HBO Comedy for which he received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Directing for Variety/Music/Comedy Program. He also directed The Hollow Men, a new sketch comedy series for Comedy Central. In addition, Moffitt, along with partner Pat Tourk Lee, has produced two Primetime Emmy Awards shows. They also founded Comic Relief, a non-profit organization dedicated to aiding the homeless. Since 1986, Moffitt and Lee have produced all eight Comic Relief shows, featuring a veritable 'who's who' of comedy hosted by Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg, and Robin Williams.
The two-hour telecast is set to highlight 73 categories of Emmy Awards including those given for Outstanding Guest Actor/Actress in a Comedy Series, Outstanding Guest Actor/Actress in a Drama Series and Outstanding Reality Series. In addition, the Engineering Awards and the Interactive Media Awards will also be announced during this year’s show.
