Maury Chaykin, a Canadian actor known for more than three decades of television and film work, died July 27, 2010, at a Toronto hospital due to complications from kidney illness. He passed away on his 61st birthday.
Chaykin was born in 1949 in New York to an American father and a Canadian mother. He grew up in Brooklyn and attended the State University of New York at Buffalo before moving to Toronto in 1974.
Over the course of more than 30 years, Chaykin appeared in the feature films Dances With Wolves, The Postman, Owning Mahoney, Mystery, Alaska, A Life Less Ordinary and The Adjuster.
His lengthy television resume included episodes of C.S.I., Boston Legal, Entourage and many other series.
His role in Whale Music, a Canadian film, earned him a Genie (the Canadian equivalent to the Oscars) for best performance by an actor in a supporting role in 1994. He also earned up Geminis (the Canadian equivalent of the Emmy) for guest spots on the Canadian TV series La Femme Nikita in 1998 and At the Hotel in 2006.
He is survived by his wife, actress Susannah Hoffman, and their daughter.
