Brittany Murphy, an actress known for numerous roles in both feature films and television, died unexpectedly on December 20, 2009. She was 32.
Murphy died at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, after having been transported from her nearby home, which she shared with her husband, screenwriter Simon Monjack.
According to news reports, Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said Murphy apparently collapsed in the bathroom, and authorities were looking into her medical history.
Murphy was born in Atlanta on November 10, 1977, and grew up in New Jersey. She later moved with her mother to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career.
Her career started in the early 1990s with small roles in television series such as Murphy Brown and Fraiser, as well as commercials and features. She is best known for such films as Girl, Interrupted, Clueless and 8 Mile, and such television roles as Luanne Platter on the animated series King of the Hill.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her parents and extended family members.
