Eric Sykes, a hugely popular British comic actor, died July 12, 2012, after a brief illness. He was 89.
He wrote and starred in his own British sticom, called Sykes and a... about a brother and sister living together in West London. It ran in two different segments, from 1960-1965 and 1972-1979.
Sykes played the gardener Frank Bryce in 2005's Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Other film roles include Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines, The Spy With a Cold Nose and The Others.
His resume included many other television credits, including voice work on the children’s series Teletubbies.
Sykes began his career as a scriptwriter for BBC radio shows, during which time he collaborated with Spike Milligan on the classic radio comedy The Goon Show.
He was awarded the C.B.E. (Commander of the order of the British Empire) in the 2005 Queen's New Years Honours List for his services to drama.
He is survived by his wife and four children.
