Robert Sherman, Renowned Disney Songwriter

Robert Sherman, who, along with his brother, Richard, wrote some of the best known songs in such Disney productions as Mary Poppins and The Jungle Book, died March 5, 2012, in London, England. He was 86.

Other films for which the Shermans wrote songs included Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Bedknobs and Broomsticks and The Aristocats.

Their list of enduring songs includes "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious," "A Spoonful of Sugar" and "It’s a Small World (After All)."

The New York-born brothers won two Oscars for Mary Poppins, including best music and best song for "Chim Chim Cher-ee."

The Shermans also contributed songs to television productions, including Zorro, Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Welcome to Pooh Corner and Petronella.

In asddition, Robert Sherman wrote an episode of the CBS series Murder, She Wrote.
