Viewing Platform Submission Specifications for Emmy Nominees

GENERAL DEADLINE: WEDNESDAY, July 24 at 6:00 PM PT

Please follow the steps below to upload the digital file for the nominated programs and attach them to your nominated entries. For most nominations, please upload the complete program or episode that is nominated. Categories that have special specifications are listed below. Programs need to be submitted as it was in its initial premiere broadcast with no internal editing. Revised versions or edited re-broadcasts are  not permitted. Replace commercials and other interstitials with 2-3 seconds of black.

General Requirements:

  • Emmy Awards are conditioned on timely delivery of a correctly prepared file.

  • Failure to deliver correct files on time may result in your submission not being judged.

  • Quality Assurance within the Awards portal is the responsibility of the nominee. Failure to provide correctly prepared submissions will result in you being required to immediately resubmit a new file.

  • If one episode is nominated in multiple categories, you only need to upload that episode once.

  • Not all categories require a new upload, if you uploaded during the submission process. Please check the list below to see if your category is one that does not need a new upload.

  • Videos uploaded to the FYC section of the Viewing Platform will not be transferred by the Television Academy.

Upload Instructions:

  1. Log in to the Awards site.

  2. Click "Video Upload" in the left menu to upload your videos.

  3. Click "My Nominations" to see your nominated entries.

  4. Click into a nominated entry to attach the uploaded video and fill out any required information.

  5. After reviewing the video and data, click "Submit Video Entry".

File Specifications: Please note: Programs need to be submitted as broadcast with no internal editing. Replace commercials and other interstitials with 2-3 seconds of black.
Video specifications: Minimum of 720p – Stereo – Standard broadcast quality - 2.5 Mb/s
(This is the minimum requirement - please provide the best possible file) 29.97 {Native}, 23.976 {Native} or 24 {Native} frame rates Note: Please supply Native Frame rates. Do not send a 23.98 to 29.97 conversion.
Preferred format: .mov or .mp4
Slates/Title cards: NONE
Bars and Tone: NONE
Credits: Include the beginning and end credits
Video File Naming Convention: Please follow the file naming convention
Programs/Individuals: Network_ProgramName_EpisodeName

  • Do not abbreviate the name of the program

  • Use the name of the episode, not the episode number (unless it is the only title for the episode)

  • e.g. HBO_GameOfThrones_WinterIsComing.mp4

5.1 Audio:
If uploading videos with 5.1, the audio must be in one of the following formats:

  • 2 streams, one with 2 channels, one with 6 channels

  • 1 stream, 8 channels (layout specified below)

  • 8 streams, 1 channel each (layout specified below)

5.1 Audio Channel Order:

  • Channel 1 – Left

  • Channel 2 – Right

  • Channel 3 – Center

  • Channel 4 – LFE

COMEDY AND DRAMA SERIES PROGRAM SPECIFICATIONS: DEADLINE JULY 24

Category 84 – Comedy Series
Category 85 – Drama Series
Category 92 – Short Form Comedy, Drama Or Variety Series

Nominees in these categories must submit a total of six episodes. A two-parter will count as two episodes.

LIMITED AND ANTHOLOGY SERIES PROGRAM SPECIFICATIONS: DEADLINE JULY 24

Category 86 - Limited or Anthology Series

Nominees in this category must submit all episodes.

SUPPORTING ACTOR/ACTRESS FOR LIMITED OR ANTHOLOGY SERIES/MOVIE SPECIFICATIONS: DEADLINE JULY 24

Category 71 – Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie
Category 74 – Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie

Nominees for a supporting role in a Limited Series must select and upload one episode only.
*Lead Actor and Lead Actress upload entire Limited or Anthology Series.

CASTING SPECIFICATIONS: DEADLINE JULY 26

Requirements for the following categories:
Category 8 – Casting for a Comedy Series
Category 9 – Casting for a Drama Series
Category 11 - Casting for a Reality Program

Please submit an edited upload of composite clips from up to three series episodes (entrant's choice) with a total running time of up to thirty minutes. More than three episodes will disqualify the entry.

 An on-screen slate will be required that lists which performers were cast in a previous season, or from a previous portrayal in any other medium (for example a spin-off from a feature film), as well as those performers who were attached to the project prior to the casting director being hired.

Additionally, please email the following information as a PDF to melton@televisionacademy.com, which will be distributed to the voters:

  • 1. A synopsis and cast list for each scene on the composite video. Please clearly denote which performers were cast in the nominated season.

  • 2. A complete cast list from the nominated season. Again, please clearly denote which cast members were cast during the nominated season.

 Requirements for the following category:
Category 10 – Casting for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie

Please submit an edited upload that composites up to thirty minutes (entrant's choice) of the entered limited or anthology series (from one or more parts), or movie.

Category 52 – Contemporary Makeup (Non-Prosthetic)
Area 53 – Period or Fantasy/Sci-Fi Makeup

Area 55 – Prosthetic Makeup

 A digital upload of a reel not to exceed 7 minutes

  • Clips must only show the work done by the nominated individuals

  • Entries must be edited to highlight the hair or makeup for the nominated program/episode

  • Each entry must be “as aired” with original audio and no internal editing. Clip reels with soundtrack embellishments or photos will be disqualified
    NOTE: Area 47 and Area 54 have the option to upload the entire episode.
