Partnered with popular cabler Comedy Central for the roll out, iTunes is featuring the Emmy®-winning Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report for Multi-pass launch.
For $9.99, viewers can buy a series of the following month's 16 new episodes (i.e., four air each week). They may also opt to purchase individual installments at $1.99.
Each episode will be available for download once broadcast.
Viacom's Inc. Comedy Central currently holds the number #7 and #15 spots on the upper echelons of iTunes' Top 100 TV Shows list, with the Dane Cook and Carlos Mencia installments, respectively, of Comedy Central Stand-Up—behind several episodes of ABC's Lost, the Dave Chappelle special For What It's Worth and episodes of The Office and Battlestar Galactica.
Apple has been selling television programs and other video via iTunes since late 2005, logging more than 8 million units sold since launch. The Multi-Pass service represents traditionally a la carte iTunes' first dance with any subscription-based business model.
Viewers may watch their purchases on such devices as computers and video-enabled iPods.
